Alternator Brushes?

Hi, My 2001 Rover 45 TD battery charge light comes on now and again. If I tap the alternator lightly it cures the problem. So I suspect worn brushes with weakened springs. Is it possible to replace the brushes in situ without removing the alternator? Thanks
