Engine just cut out
Hi, I am not very mechanical so bear with me, I have a 2001 1.8 petrol 45, I was driving to work yesterday morning and after about eight miles the engine just suddenly cut out! I coasted to a stop and tried to start it but it would turn over just fine but would not fire?
I called the AA and the guy, after poking about a bit hooked up his fault code gismo, he said there were several codes but nothing that would help so he cleared them and tried again and only got one code, I think it was something to do with the throttle speed? not sure, but he said it would not stop the engine from starting.
He checked the airflow with a squirt of whatever and that produced a couple of weak coughs when the engine was turned over but that was it, he concluded that it was some sort of ignition problem but didn't know what and that it would require further diagnostics, so he towed me to my friendly mechanics workshop where it is awaiting his return next week , I know it's not much to go on, but does anyone have any idea's what the problem could be?
The car was booked in next week with the same guy to fit a clutch kit, and two days before the breakdown I noticed a very small coolant leak coming down the back of the engine, if this new problem turns out to be expensive I am not sure it will be worth doing all the repairs. Any help please.
