MOT query Please

Finally my MGF is ready for the MOT, but one nagging problem is that the reverse lights don't work I have changed bulbs check contacts etc. to no avail. So I think the problem must be in the gearbox contact (beyond my knowledge of electrics). My question is will it fail the MOT if the reverse lights don't work? A friend of mine told me that reverse lights are not a fail in the MOT, so want to make sure, anybody here can illuminate on this issue. Thanks for your help
