Hello from New Zealand

Hi, I just got a very low mileage near immaculate 1998 Rover 216.

A proper job on the head was done before I got it, but it did have the reverse gear "music" when in reverse and I suspected the reverse idler gear.

On taking it apart, yes indeed this is the problem, I would not have thought a few damaged teeth would have made such a bad noise.

Now the problem is, do you think I can find a new reverse idler gear anywhere in the World... second hand R65 gearbox's in NZ are hard to come by.

Now I see on Ebay an IB5 reverse idler gear (15mm) looks so similar, same number of teeth and presumably the same R65 shaft diameter. I wonder if I could use this, or anyone who can supply me with a R65 reverse idler gear...

Phew, how much easier it would have been in the UK to go down the road and get a good second hand R65 box...

Thanks for reading this.
