What to look for when buying another head

I had been planning on buying another VVC head so that I could send it off to DVA, but keep using the car till I had them swapped. One came up on ebay and so I took a risk and bought it. I took it to a garage I trust and asked them to check it for me, scrap was the verdict. No real loss as it gave me a spare set of vvc cams and mechs, however it got me thinking.



What is the minimum height of a cylinder head before it becomes scrap?



Is there a how too on what you should look out for?
