ZT coolant temp ???

'04 ZT-T 1.8 n/a petrol with prt thermo.

If I could get some opinions please.

Completely flushed and changed coolant 4 weeks ago maybe. New cap for bottle (100psi not the 140 that was in there). Gone no distance today when regular temperature gauge stopped registering anything, lying at rest position, and OBD showing temp of -128. High speed fan activated.

Coolant level in exp bottle fine. Didn't seem overly hot in engine. Hoses didn't seem to be as pressurised as they might be, but then it really hadn't gone far enough maybe to warrant a good pressure, not lots of pressure when I opened exp bottle. There is no run on of high speed fan when shutting down engine. The car doesn't start again as easily as it normally does. Normal = 1 or 2 cranks, now takes 6 - 8. Running performance as normal.

Noticed a lot of mayo lining hoses when I did the flush but coolant and oil have never been seen to be mixing since I have had car. Maybe from previous head gasket failure ? Today before I set out there were traces of mayo in oil filler cap and on oil dipstick. Not sure this is relevant or not, could maybe have been disturbed during flush/refill ? I don't know.

Does this sound like temp sender? thermostat? any other ideas please.

Thanks people. Crafty.
