engine fan

Is there an easy way to test the operation of the engine compartment cooling fan?



The fan does work by feeding power direct to it via a battery.



I have disconnected the sensor in the engine compartment and connected a 12 volt feed to the wires that go to the fan but the fan doesnt work then.



I have held a heat gun to the sensor (Connected) and the fan still does not come on.



Any suggestions??
