Engine sounds

My 45 turbo diesel (53 Impression), which I've owned for nearly 4 years, is my first ever diesel in 35 years of driving. Love the car, but sometimes it sounds a lot more like a "tractor" than others and there is more vibration coming through the gearstick.

Always runs fine, never any change in performance, but some days it's much louder than others. I'd say lumpier but that isn't really the right description. I thought at first it was exhaust but I've ruled that out.

Perhaps something is on the way out? Any suggestions?
