HELP! Clutch very light, gears very very hard to get into..?
***MGF VVC, V reg, 15k miles, garaged and only driven in Summer.***
Hi..would appreciate any advice please....Love the MGF marque and had an old Abingdon VVC. Recently got another MGF and now have a clutch / gear problem!
Reverse gear has always been a little 'trying' to get into (usual issue!) BUT yesterday without any warning or apparent deterioration it was impossible to get the car in to ANY gear... The clutch now feels VERY LIGHT as if you push the pedal down and nothing happens! (Just a tiny bit of pressure at the end of the down motion). I looked up on these forums and found lots of good advice about lubricating the clutch arm joint, but I've done that now and its not made a difference, all appears fine there. After a while yesterday you could push hard the gearstick in to any gears with car running but didn't feel safe to drive anywhere. Anyone any suggestions???
There seems to be a gunky light brown liquid in the clutch master cylinder. http://ift.tt/1kcjJnF Not sure how much or what should be in there? Can't see any leaked oil or anything anywhere (both in front bay or rear). Just lots of usual rust everywhere as its an old car! ;-)
When the car is switched off the gears are smooth to get into. Just when car switched on clutch doesn't seem to do anything...
Appreciate any help or advice... I live in Aldershot area if anyone knows a good mechanic for the future.
Thanks all.
