New car New problems. ZT Turbo HGF?

Hi, im fresh from the ZR section, been driving rover/MG for years including the last 5 years in my ZR 160. still happy with the ZR but couldn't resist seeing a ZT in the flesh.

Anyway so i Seen a MGZT 1.8T on Flebay for cheap. its a lovely car, very straight in X power grey with 75000 miles and a little MOT. It was advertised with head gasket issues, pressurizing after a couple of miles. I went to view and pretty much fell in love straight away lol. The seller tells me the gasket failed after he bought it, he then changed it but still the problem continues.

For the price i couldn't say no as even scrap value would give me 75% of my money back so thought its worth the risk. it had a new turbo fitted 12 months ago which is always a nice touch :)

Now for the problems....

I only live 5 min from the guy so topped it up with coolant (tow rope in boot just incase) and watched the temp gauge which took a while to go up and never went over half way. the heaters didn't get hot apart from a split second then back cold. he left the coolant cap slightly loose though so don't know how that affected it. This morning i started it and it was missing quite bad and the engine light was flashing. as it warmed the light went out and it started to sound much better but i turned it off incase of further damage. The oil cap had slight moisture in it so im guessing that's a sign there's still head issues. The fans were going when i pulled up from buying it so i know they work.

He said he didn't skim the head but used the MLS gasket. Im just interested to know what people think really and im worried why it would misfire when cold and the EML flashing then clear up as it warms up. The head will need to come off again no doubt :(

Nice to meet everyone in the ZT section and i hope i can get this lovely car sorted and stick around a little longer :)

Matt.

PS.... i should also state its a bit hard to start, almost like its lacking compression but i might be wrong. ether way you got to pump the throttle to get her running.
