which 75 to buy for fuel economy?

Hi

looks like my rover 45 is on the way out, thinking of getting a 75, in either petrol or diesel, can anyone advise which one I should get?? currently getting 40 mpg out my 45 and its road tax is £230 a year, would like better mpg and road tax..
