220GTi - L-series conversion

ive copied this from another forum so it may involve many posts...

After having my MG ZS Diesel VNT turbo project bought to an abrupt end by some old dude driving into my car i kinda hit a low point and thought like ****** am i spending that much time on my daily driver again nor having a nice example of one. I bought a tatty ZS180 on LPG to tidy me over and that was that, no messing, no major mods.

I soon got bored of that after taking my old dears streetwise diesel out which id fitted Sdi injectors to along with some silicone boost pipes - that was the wake up call, the weight saving over the ZS made for quite a nippy and fun car to drive at its what ~130hp? that was it, time to get the VNT diesel project back in action.

I sold the ZS180 to my mate who needed a car that was cheap on fuel yet not riddled with electrical gremlins like his diesel Golf that had just thrown a bearing only a year after having anew dual mass flywheel and clutch amongst other items. So i went online to see what i could buy, eventually i found the perfect car, a 2000 Rover 25 diesel for £350 due to the tatty bodywork - no issue i wanted summut a bit more ratty anyway. iwent to see it and ensure it was alright, and it was, it drove fine, few knocks from the exhaust but nowt else wrong and 1 owner from new - bargain :D

A few days later i come across a 220GTi for sale, i go see it and yeah its pretty tatty, poorly T16 engine, rusty behind the spats, nothing like the rust of my 216GTi i had 10 years earlier but it had MOT and tax so i bought that too and drove it home.

and so the stripdown of the Rover 25 began! i took so many pics of the enginebay so i could remember where everything went and which bolts did what, hereś a small selection of them

wouldnt of got half the bolts out without this stuff!!

at this point i pondedred over the thought of fitting a Zr rack, i couldnt find any info on anyone doing so just that it required bulkhead mods, well since im at it iĺl cut the entire bulkhead pocket out the 25 so i can compare it to the 220 once i get it too stripped down.

i found a pic and evidence of someone fitted a 200 rack to a ZR/25 so i cold use it as a reference

The 25 was scrapped on saturday at last!!

so home came the 220Gti from works unit and today i began stripping it down after work:

and thats as far as ive gotten lol
