Better braking advices

Hello.i need your lights on how to make my rover brake better. Atm it has stock calipers,discs etc,drums in rear,and no abs.If i change the front pads alone (ex buy vented -larger discs) would there be any difference?And also,is it possible a rear drum-to-disc conversion?Does it worth it??
