Can't find the cause for my intermittent ABS light, please help

For the last 18 months or so, the ABS light has been intermittently on/off on my 2000 Rover 45. Bearing in mind I have not driven the car for about 18 months so I cant remember exactly how it behaves while driving (my dad used it for 12 months but he doesn't pay attention to things like that). I remember it being very sporadic. It managed to get through one MOT (happened to NOT be illuminated when they tested it) however its most recent MOT it failed due to the ABS light.

Approx 6 months ago I unplugged the big plug to the ABS module to inspect contacts and everything looked fine.

I have done a resistance test on all 4 sensors, via the plugs of each sensor. The results where:

N/S Front = 1680

O/S Front = 1634

N/S Rear = 1691

O/S Rear = 1667

Yesterday I checked the fuse for the ABS - just on the off chance it happened to be loose.

I also tried to inspect as much wiring as possible - I went around wiggling all the wires to the sensors while a helper monitored the light on the dash.

At one point the light went off simply by moving the steering wheel. Another time the light went off when I pulled the wire going to the O/S Front sensor. However after switching the engine off and re starting, the light was back on and I could not get the light to go off again by wiggling the wire to that sensor.

The front reluctor rings look fine - I replaced them about 5 years ago.

The rear reluctor rings do look a bit of a state, but I didn't think this could affect the ABS light?

If anyone has any ideas then I would really appreciate it. It sounds completely daft but if I can't solve this then it wont pass an MOT, and if it wont pass an MOT there is no point keeping the car. It is tired at 160k miles, and its 1.8 engine is starting to smoke a bit (valve stem seals) however I would like to get another year out of it.
