GAZ shocks and cheap hydrolastic pump

Nearing my subframe rebuild I have just fitted my new GAZ shocks. I bought a set of 4, coming in two boxes with nothing to differentiate front and rear so I assume it is the same GAZ shock front and rear, damping altered to suit by user.

However - I had to lift the wheel to fit the bottom retaining bolt - i.e the shocks are too short to allow full travel of the shock - on full extension there is still a gap of about 3mm ABOVE the bump stop (fitted below the upper arm) so the bump stop is redundant and any force on full extension (I appreciate that means wheel being airborne which is unlikely) will be taken by the shock top nyloc nut.

Dosen't seem right by me?

Anyone else experienced the same?

Also just refilled my hydrolastic spheres and reset my suspension height. Looked for a cheap hydrolastic pump for ages then found this:

they are sold as heating system pressure testers on ebay item number

281324346405 absolutely brilliant. Has a decent length connecting pipe with a thread to screw in to a radiator ( I think) which I cut off and put a heavy duty schrader valve connector on from an old foot pump with a jubilee clip. Has a nice big tank, I have used it a couple of times to adjust my Trophy and a friends MGF, then I have just used it to completely refill my Trophy front spheres following this rebuild. Best part is the price - £35.99 DELIVERED :) .
