Fuel Injectors on Honda engines

Hi All,

I hate to mention the BMW word, but I recently did an injector upgrade on my 1989 E30. When I say "upgrade", I mean of course that I removed the 26 year old OE spec injectors and replaced them with a carefully selected close modern equivalent.

The results have been nothing short of miraculous; so much so that I've had to be a little conservative in the way I've described them to others, until I could verify them. The car has noticeably more power, better idling characteristics, but the biggest difference of all is to the fuel consumption. I have yet to do a long distance motorway run to gauge the change in peak economy, but on the urban cycle, the fuel consumption is down by about a third !... yes 30% or a little more; and this is mostly down to the fact that modern injectors do a far better job of vapourising the fuel than do the OE spec injectors, which can hardly be said to vapourise the fuel at all. What's more is that the modification was cheap; replacement OE spec injectors for my (ahem!) BMW are incredibly difficult to get hold of, and are priced at around £100 each, yet the modern injectors I selected came in at less tan £25 each (+ postage) !

Doubly annoying is knowing that the old Lucas MkII petrol injection system gets such a sleighting, when the injectors it uses vapourise the fuel far better than those that Bosch were manufacturing up to 30 years later !

Anyway, I'm looking now at doing a similar mod on my Rover 600, and would appreciate any information as to the injector type and if possible the specifications of said injectors used on the late 2 litre Honda engine.

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated, and of course I'll report back with my findings.

Best Regards,

Dave Seer.
