Hello from Luton, former Oxford boy

Hey all, I have joined because I almost grew up with Rover, Austin & MG around me! Living in Oxford I grew up near Cowley (what is now where the current Mini factory is) and by 1998 when I moved out of Oxford at the age of 14 most of the site had been wound up.

Up until then my life was full over Austin metro's, Rover Metro's and 100's and Rover 200's! The Mini was made in Cowley & also the Rover 800 series if my memory tells me correctly.

I think its such a shame that Rover Group got split up by BMW. understanding they was a car company in trouble, if it was still together under the Rover Group umbrella we would have a viable car company back!

Rover cars as the volume manufacturer

Mini as a subsidiary

MG as the sports division

Land Rover as the 4*4 division

LDV as the van division

I remember the shutting down of the factory killing Oxford, put many people out of work. my old man worked for Lucas CAV which supplied them

Does everyone know that before Rover MG went bust they was leasing their own brand name from BMW? what do they want with our car company?

a Mini is not a mini unless it wears an Austin, leyland or Rover badge! what have BMW done for us lately?

any moan over, I've posted this to start some debate, please contribute your story everyone! I want Rover & Land Rover & MG back as a British owned and run company, sorry our Chinese friends. you aint got the history heritage for a brand name like that!
