help needed mg zs td overheating

Hi All

Im new to the forum i have just purchased a 55 plate mg zs 4 door 2.0td full body kit ect the guy i got from was selling as a non runner so was a great price im trying to finf out what the fault maybe its got 58k on the clock last month he was driving home when the car started to over heat and lose power so he pulled over and called the aa they towed him homw and said may be the propelor in the water pump he checked the pump and was no sign of any leaks the mot was due so he just ought a new car can anyone advise what they think might be the car still start stright up but if you sit at high revs the temp goes right up also the eml is now on im hoping nothing major is wrong but you never know thanks for your time and will await your replys
