Useless range with key fob central locking

Sorry if this has been covered before...



I'm on my 2nd MGTF now and on both the remote locking via the key fob has been useless. Changed the battery - didn't notice any difference. Any more than 3 feet away from the car and I can't lock it.



Is there a knack to it - am I just unlucky - are they all the same - is there a fix - is there a best position around the car to press the button?
