Handbrake Rattle
So, amongst all the faults I'm trying to keep up with, there is an annoying rattle/buzz at low rpm or idle. It goes away if you lift the handbrake lever slightly. Dull subject I know...
Tonight I had a look down the cubby hole in the armrest and also removed the handbrake leather gaiter. I wasn't running the engine as it was late and a old couple live next door, but I could see that the lever ends in a sort of black riveted sheet metal...yoke? This is hinged onto a thicker passivated steel section that bolts to the central tunnel metal work and appears to hold the handbrake spring cable and an adjusting nut etc. When the handbrake is on, this assembly is nice and tight. When it is off, the handbrake lever and yoke can rattle about from side to side quite a bit.
I think this may be what is causing the rattle - if it isn't, it should be! Thing is, this sheet metal yoke is riveted together and as far as I can see there's nothing to tighten up.
Anyone come across this problem before, and is there a solution?
I did tighten the handbrake adjuster nut on the sprung centre cable a little, but the fact is, when the lever is fully off, it can still be rattled - and I don't want to stop it rattling by adjusting the handbrake to be slightly on all the time!
