No steering wheel stereo control wiring!

I've recently bought a late 2003 ZR+'TD which has had a steering when change to a black and red leather one. It also has the remote controls for the head unit on which I would like to use. However, I can't seem t find the connector behind the centre console.. Was is always part of the loom despite whether the original steering wheel did have the controls on it? If so, is there anywhere else the wiring could be, tucked up behind the desk somewhere?



FYI, I have a Pioneer HU with an adaptor for my model of car.
