cold starts sluggish

Have a ZT kv6 and had the issue of slightly reluctant starting when the car was cold or when it was parked for an hour or so it would need a few more cranks and a touch of the accelorator to start.Would start perfectly if I restarted the car within 20 min of parking it.

This issue is well documented and seems general opinon is it the intake air control valve (IACV) sensor which tells the ECU what to do fuel / air wise when starting.

The problem is caused by carbon build up on the tip, thus giving incorrect readings to the ECU .

Took the whole assembly off ,gave it a clean and all looked fine ,re fitted and no real change in starting. Took the assmbly off again, this time removed the actual sensor right out of the housing and found a bunch of carbon etc covering the head of the sensor which is buried in the housing.

The sensor is held in by 2 screws only and has a rubber O ring seal and just pulls out of the housing.

Cleaned it using MAF sensor cleaner and now start up seems good at this point.Ill keep checking it to see if it lasts but for now seems fixed.

Moral of the story, if you clean the sensor, take it right out of the housing and clean it and the housnig properly .
