rover 45 2001 2.0 td wont start

Hi my rover 45 wont start i drove around 30 miles jamp out the car to run in to shop and turned it off i just noticed it was on the fuel light . Could have been on for a wile just never noticed .. before i turned the car off it the engine was kind of jittering. And now it wont start .. ive put a jerry can of diesel in.. any ideas on what to do ?
