Rover owners: How to repair the mirror folding mechanism

The folding mechanism is made in Zamak the material used for metal car model by Dinky or Corgi, easy to manufacture but too fragile.
I usually fold the mirros, but this stress the spring fixing pins, may be 3 mm pins.
I broke the pin on the door side, but I discovered the arm was also distorted and seriously damaged. A spare mirror showed the same problems, hopefully I was able to recover the zamak insert.
For the arm I decided to repair inserting a M5 screw, I drilled and thread the hole. As someone told to me once "it will last more than the car".
I guess it's a common problem, not easy to discover when purchasing a second hand mirro.
I will try to recovery the other part, inserting a U shaped piece of steel.
I undestand cost saving, but this is really a stupid saving.
