Beware Ebay headgasket kits

Hi all I recently bought a 1999 mgf with known head gasket failure. My friend whom is a mechanic and owns a garage offered to repair it for me however to save a bit cash I bought a gasket kit off Ebay. Well the head was skimmed and tested then fitted then to my horror a new headbolt snapped whilst being torqued down. All procedures were followed correctly but upon examination the snapped bolt was much lighter than the original. Well I am going to have to learn by my costly mistakes. Will I have to fit a new engine as I dont think anything can be salvaged from this or does anyone have any ideas for what option to take. Many thanks Speckybroon from Gateshead
