Diesel Streetwise - overheating?

Hi,



Our diesel streetwise is showing the temperature gauage needle just under the red - so is over heating. As far as we can tell the fan is not operating. The needle rises over a 3- 5mile period, and settles at this point.



Are there any common causes - broken fan or themostat?
