Automatic gearbox

Hi there, when i accelerate gently from standstill as the car begins to pick up speed and a couple of seconds before changing gear i hear a whining sound, then once the gear changes and i accelerate again the same thing happens in each gear and so on. I did not notice this until recently as i had a faulty bearing on power stearing pump but now this has been changed the whining noise is now evident. I was wondering if i changed the gearbox oil if this might solve the peoblem or is it something more serious??
