Mg express td
So when I got offered a silly amount for my modded escort van I just had to sell it, I removed a few items so the buyer got the van a bit cheaper all told I made £1675. So the escort was sold and delivered on the Saturday and I needed another van before work on Monday, I had to get another van due to insurance purposes, at the time I had a little over £1k to spend.
I looked on auto trader at a few vans initially I was going for a fiesta mk6 van but all where dogs in my price range, I remembered MG did a ZR van so I went looking all told there's a total of 337 MG Express vans made, 67 in X power grey and mine is No 62 . As luck would have it I spotted a grey express 5 miles away for £1250, I emailed the owner and explained my situation and what I needed. So I went to look at it and I drove home in it after giving £1060 for it queue one happy Dan, The day I got it
So its a 2.0TD 101bhp it came with mot till December, tax till may, private plate and a parrot Bluetooth hands free oh and a nasty carbon wrapped bonnet ( ill get to that)
As you lot know me by now I cant leave anything alone so inside a week I fitted another set of alloys and tyres, pipercross induction kit, free flowing back box, Bluetooth head unit, new speakers and sub.
I have also swapped the brakes from the stock 262mm SOLID !! front discs and calipers to 262mm vented discs and appropriate calipers, some internet research I found that swapping the injectors from an older rover diesel will yield 30bhp gain ( I know I was sceptical myself but there's a lot of information to back the claim up) along with a hollowed out cat and boost increase. Some more pics eh
I had visions of the insurance jumping up from the escort due to it being a newer vehicle and more "sporty" however I was amazed that my insurance dropped £300 and my last 3 insurances premiums will now be £9.95 So that was brucie bonus.
Now that carbon bonnet wrap I hated it but I had suspicions that it was hiding a problem... well
And I was right, looks like the owner previously has tried to paint the bonnet and messed it up so his solution was to hide it.. So my mate set about to repaint it for me but due to some further issues the paint kept reacting then we ran out of paint.. Not to be deterred I asked for another colour to be put on to make do until I get more paint
A SEAT grey was added Im still not happy that its a different colour but its 100% better than the gash wrap.
Today whilst at the local scrap yard I spied some 16" TD Pro Race 2 alloys after a quick offer up on a poor rover for fitment, Spoke to the owner and bagged them for £50. Quick clean up to remove the oil/mud/cv grease they have come up nigh on new bar the curbed lips.
Plus a test fit
They weigh just under 8kg each so a nice saving, plenty of other work to be done so this will be kept updated.
