pothole damage - 3 months later

back in December i hit a pretty nasty water filled pothole out in Shropshire miles from home. i got out to check the car as it sounded very bad, thought id lost the NS sideskirt or tore the rear bumper off. Any way i couldnt find anything broken and the wheel and tyre looked fine (running the winter wheels 185/65/15 SEi alloys) but it was raining like mad, 2am so pitchblack and on a dangerous B road so carried on to my destination.

In January i notice my NSR damper is weeping so swap it for one from my ZSD i was breaking to get it ready for its MOT. ok all seems well.

now cue last week ive been getting water in the boot and as of friday a creeking sound.

I strip out all the boot trip to see this:

the spot welds have broken where the shock tower and boot floor seam join up!!

the upper joint doesnt look too good either though the welds are all intact just a little surface rust from the water ingress, same as the lower ´parted´ joint -just early signs of surface rust, thankfully its still solid and not rotten

is it save-able or am i looking at a new shock tower panel welding in?

plan was to de-rust then pull the join back together and create some new welded spots along the seams then zinc paint over it all then seam sealer to finish - what you reckon?
