anyone who knows about autos please!!

Hi everyone,



My name is Sam and I've recently bought a dark green, 1.4 16V AUA engined Auto, the engine had blown a hole through the block and so needed replacement...











And here is the new engine being built up and put in..

I've just finished putting the new engine into the lupo but when i went to start it i got a loud clonk.... almost like the starter was stuck engaged, so i whipped it off and tested it on the bench and it seems fine.



Now i went to turn over the engine by hand but it wont budge and i know this engine isn't seized as i heard it running before it was delivered,



one thing i ought to mention is when i was putting the old box onto the new engine, there was a 1cm gap that i couldn't close between the gearbox and the engine, but i bolted it up and it closed the gap so i thought nothing of it,



please can i have some insight? i really dont want to pull out the gearbox again :(
