CDI crank pulley issues
Done the crank pulley recently on the diesel 75 and after removing the old destroyed pulley ( was in 2 parts with rubber melted in bits) spent some time looking for the key I presumed had fallen somewhere.
After calling a mate he informed me there wasnt one ,, even though the pulley and crank are set up with a key.
I find this bizzare and can only image that the Rover/BMW marriage led to some faux pas.
Has anyone tried to source the original Bmer woodruf key as it seems bonkers not to be keyed.
BTW there are some really crap pulleys out there so dont even go near a cheapee,,, mine started making noise in the morning and it started to smoke the same day and barely got me home such was the degree of rapid failure.
The other thing that bothers me was reading about folk using 6 ft poles to tighten/undo the bolt.
I always use a well place/locked bar/socket on the bolt and flick the starter 2 or 3 times and to date no problems,, ditto impact gun and the bolt is off,, but must be above 600Nm so a truck gun is best.
I mention this as I have seen cranks bent as a result of overenthuasic and excessive leverage regarding this and as a result wobbel in the pulley leading to premature failure ,, hence the need to key it.
