Electrical whine from underneath steering reservoir

Hey guys,



Intermittent sound on my 45 TD. Sounds like an electrical whine and has only been present the last few weeks. It doesn't always sound, and when it does it's for a few seconds (less than a minute) after the car's started.



At first I thought alternator, opening the bonnet and leaning in makes it sound more like it's coming from underneath the steering fluid reservoir. Does anyone know what's down there?
