Sudden steering issue

Had a distressed call from the wife this morning...she was doing the normal drive to work when she says the steering wheel pulled the car really sharply to the right onto the wrong side of the road. She was able to get the car back under control but over steered and hit the curb...everything looks ok but she's obviously quite shaken!



She's planning on getting the RAC out to look at it/tow it back, but I was wondering if anyone had had anything similar happen before?



The car's had a slight tendency to pull left for a little while now, but it's never been more than a slight pressure and it passed it's MOT last week.
