45 CVT 'issues'
Hello all.
First post and any help appreciated please.
Picked up a Rover 45 CVT two days ago fully aware that it was sticking in second every now and then. I was happy to do that based on the pennies I paid for it (with tax, MOT and an almost new set of tyres) and the fact Rovers are one of the cars I regularly break if beyond rescue.
Problem is now that it isn't sticking in second... it just won't go...
The interior is genuinely like a new car, bodywork is really very good indeed and I have to 'fess, it is a very, very good drive when moving (as I have always found 400/45 models are) so I'm still not wanting to give up on this one and condemn it to being taken apart. I would actually like to run around in it for a while.
Starts, runs, etc. Into D, slight change in engine note but no movement at all. Same if R is selected. I did notice yesterday that it had a bit of an aggressive drive take up when used for the first time of the day so very likely connected.
Were it at my unit (near tools, etc) at the moment I would not be too stressed but it's in the street outside the house.
Checked no easily visible connectors fallen off/loose. I can push it back n forth in neutral so nothing locked up. Tried manually selecting different forward gears with no effect/difference.
Any thoughts or ideas please or do I have to resign myself to it being an internal mechanical fault and the fact that repair is uneconomical?
