Gearstick removal!!

Hi guys,



Has anyone got any experience in this at all?? I want to remove a gearstick from an MGZR 2003 and put it into my MGZR 2004! The 2003 has a threaded gearstick, the 2004 does not! I want to swap them as I want to screw on my old MGTF chrome gearknob :)



I have removed the surround and taken out the (hard to remove!!) sprung 'e-clip', but it still will not come out - do I need to remove the big plate that seems to be bolted in from underneath the car?? I sincerely hope not!!
