Heater Blower Problem with strange twist

Hi Guys,

I have a 2003 MG ZR with heater blower problems.



Up until a few months ago it was always the case that only heater blower positions 3 & 4 would work.

Then positions 3 & 4 stopped working, however by fiddling with the key in the ignition barrel with the engine running i found that positions 3 & 4 would start up intermittently but would not stay on as the key kept moving back into its correct position.

I changed the heater resistor pack behind the glove box and got all 4 positions blowing but still only by fiddling with the ignition key.

In my infinite wisdom i decided to squirt wd40 into the ignition barrel and now i have no blowers even by fiddling with the key.

I cannot understand why fiddling with the ignition key was the only way to get the blowers to kick in (obvioulsy prior to my wd40 episode).



Please please please help!!!
