Rover 25 1.4 (103ps) lacking compared to Rover 214 16v?

Has anyone else noticed a difference in torque/low down power between a Rover 214 16v (bubble shape) and a Rover 25 1.4?



Despite de-restricting my girlfriends 2000 Rover 25 1.4, it feels very gutless and lacking in power/torque under 3k rpm compared to my old 1999 Rover 214Si 16v. It is probably just as rapid as the old 214 at higher revs, but does not move very well at all at low revs.



I am sure the entire k series range from 1.4 to 1.8 (non vvc) after the 2000 'mems 3' changeover feel less lively than the pre-2000 'dizzy cap' k series.
