ZT-T Auto Strange Noise

Hi All,

Our ZT-T 180 Auto has developed a strange new noise, which has come on and got worse over the last 1000 miles or so; as always difficult to describe in words but it's a droning noise that is quite loud inside the car but does not appear to be apparent externally (eg when driving alongside concrete barrier on motorway to listen for reflected noises). It is road speed related, starting at about 30mph, much worse at 55-65, and almost gone at 70mph when cruising. It does not appear to be affected by which gear the car is in, nor does it disappear if neutral is selected, likewise it doesn't make any difference if accelerating or slowing on the engine.....

Wheel bearings appear ok, based on checking for rock top to bottom, side to side. Nearside front tyre is quite worn (just legal) and I'm wondering if this is a similar phenomenon to the wearing of rear tyres on ZT saloons which sounds like a wheel bearing going?

Any ideas/suggestions gratefully accepted!!
