Burning smell from amp.
Background: In my old car I had my amp hooked up to a couple of cheap JBL components (did the job fine though) and some random 10" kicker solo baric sub I got from an FB group. Never had an issue.
New car: Currently only running the sub, bridged in 2 channel mode etc. Not had chance to fit the speakers yet so it's just default ones. Anyway, after a 20min journey I could smell burning - not good. Can't see any melted wires or similar.
I've not got any of the gains etc particularly high - they're just how they were in the old car (based on trial and error as opposed to actual logic/calculations).
Could a dodgy earth have caused this? I earthed to the ZR seat bracket but think perhaps it wasn't done well enough. I've just taken it back out, cleaned the bolt up and the area around it (though it's not painted anyway) and made a much better connection. Not had chance to try yet but wondered if it could be that.
The only other thing that was any different, was that I'd increased the "Sub" level on the head unit (different head unit to my old car); google has since told me I should leave that alone and make any adjustments on the amp instead. So option 2, might adjusting this "sub" level have started to fry the sub coils or something?
Also it's screwed to the back seat this time so there's no clearance, but in my old car it was sitting on the boot floor with a rubber mat over it without issue so I assume it's not over-heating.
It all baffles me tbh.
cheers
