Driveshaft/differential reattachment problem

Hey guys



I've done a quick search for help with this but most seem to cover removal not reattachment. I've done a CV joint clean and boot replacement and it's time to put the driveshaft back in the differential but the circlip is bring stubborn. Am I supposed to orientate it a certain way? At the moment I have gravity pulling the open part of the clip down. Also I have no idea how much force is require so I'm being a bit reluctant so I don't damage the sun gear on the diff. Any advice would be appreciated :)
