Gearbox damaged(?) Need advice...

Hi guys!



Sadly, something has happened to the gearbox of my MGTF 160 while I was driving home (luckily not too far away).



I was driving off from the traffic lights, as normal, but once I put into 3rd gear, something seemed to have snapped and I lost all drive from the gearbox, which ended up me having to do an emergency stop.



Nothing has happened to the clutch cable as I can still push it in and out, but trying to put the car in gear just brings up a rattling noise and the wheels won't move. The rest of the engine is fine... so I assume this is something to do with the gearbox.



I rang Green Flag up to get someone to take my car back to my home, and the bloke suggested it was the gearbox bearings that have gone.





Does anyone have any good solutions to this problem? At the moment I'm thinking of taking it to a garage to find out what it is and how much it will cost, but I would like some advice from MGTF experts first.
