Rover owners: Loose dashboard centre console

Hi all

A gap has appeared on one side between my dash and the centre console. I can push it back into position but it springs back as if something is pushing it from behind. In the gap I can see a plastic lug which I presume is meant to hold it in place. So my question is has something broken or is it likely there is something behind the dash which is in the wrong position? I also can't get the fog light switch to locate properly.

I don't remember it being like this when I bought the car so I'm suspicious I may have inadvertently moved something when changing the radio.
