Rover 25 Misfire
Hello,
I've just replaced the head gasket on my 25. The insides were a bit of a mess with an oil water emulsion so it had gone pretty badly. I replaced the belts, cam belt tensioner and water pump whilst I was at it. I also replaced the first lambda sensor because I read that might have a got wrecked from the HGF.
The timing is perfect, I have spent a long time getting this right and I am happy that it is spot on. In the process I initially made a big mistake and both camshaft locator pins in the wrong slot of the sprocket wheels. I got as far as cranking the engine over on the starter motor in this set up (obviously without the engine starting).
Q1: Could this have bent a valve? Is this engine an interference engine?
Having realised my mistake I put the sprockets on correctly then re set the timing and put the rest back together. This time the engine fired up no problem. However, the engine is is lumpy at idle (noticeably so inside and outside the car) and misses slightly at higher revs (only noticeable when listening in the engine bay). It's perfectly drivable, but I want to sell it and can't sell it like this.
Q2. Any ideas what might solve the misfire?
Thanks everyone, Dave
