ZR central locking receiver
MG ZR Mk 2, five door
I'm having trouble getting into my car. My initial thought was that the lock was jamming, and this has been discussed in another thread, and while my locks my indeed be worn, I'm slowly becoming convinced that the main symptom is with the central locking reception ... or similar.
Basically, you hit the button and nothing happens. However, I'm finding that if I'm slightly behind the front door and maybe two to three feet away from the car, it works darned near every time. It's as though there's a specific area in which the key fob triggers the central locking.
The complication is that this doesn't happen absolutely everytime, just very close to it, and sometimes, it works as you'd expect a normal working central locking unit to work. If it doesn't work, I unlock the door with the key, then hit the key fob button and the alarm disarms, darned near every time ... except that I usually do this with the fob about 6" away from the door lock ie, not like the above observation at all.
Any thoughts? Has anyone had a similar problem?
I'm suspecting the central locking receiver but how do you go about testing and diagnosing this?
Incidentally, the batteries in the key fob are fresh.
