Buying advice - MGTF 1.8
Hi all, new here.
I'm looking for a first car at the moment, and stumbled across a 1.8 MGTF, well within my budget (£900)
From the pictures, it looks to be in lovely nick - 65,000 miles and a new head gasket fitted in April 2014 (I believe this is one of the most common faults with the TF?)
The insurance isn't that much higher than on a 1.2 Clio/Punto for crying out loud!
I guess my question is - will this make for a good first car? I've heard they can be a pain to look after, but my brother is a qualified mechanic and an absolute petrolhead. My dad's more into motorbikes but they both have engineering backgrounds and know their way 'round a car.
Also, is 65k a lot of miles for a TF? I honestly have no idea when it comes to MGs. I will be using it socially for the most part. Self-employed and work from home, so no commute or anything like that.
Cheers.
