Caliper wind back tool warning

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd pass on a warning about brake caliper wind back tools.

I was changing the rear pads (as you do) by using the caliper wind back tool bought from Fleabay.

Everything went well on the drivers side but I was a bit frustrated by the lock plate falling out all the time.

When I went to do the passenger side, I realised that I could turn the lock plate 180 degrees so it was held in place by the caliper whilst I turned the handle.

It was great, the piston wound nicely and no fumbling with a loose lock plate was needed.

Then I tried to remove the caliper tool. No way was it coming out.

The front of the tool was securely located in the piston and if I tried unscrewing the tool, the piston just came out with it holding everything tightly together. Previously, I just slid the lock plate out and the tool came free.

So my wonderful idea of turning the lockplate 180 degrees (not allowing it to slide out when finished) has left me with one caliper and one tool inseparable.

New (used) caliper in post and I'm now going to remove the existing one from the car and destroy it to get the tool out.

Thank god I don't have any trips planned this weekend.

And yes, I know - I'm thick! But in the heat of battle you sometime do stupid things.
