New and in need( isn't every newbie!!!)

Hi to all, I have been following the threads for quite a while and thought that I should take the plunge and join as a member and here I am.

I have a 2001 silver mgf ssteptronic which isn't doing much stepping After a HG replacement with a water pump and thermostat thrown in for fun the gearbox won't change up automatically but will shift down. The shifter and the paddles work for changing up but it is also ticking over at about 1100. I have had it suggested that the gearbox inhibitor may have given up, any ideas appreciated.
