rear cooling fans

Hi Guys.

1997 MGF 1.8 Stopped in traffic,suddenly hi pitched squeel from the rear developed.,water temp OK.Stopped to investigate,sounds like coming from the area of the high speed rear fan on the drivers side.Noise stopped when this fan stopped.Anybody struck this problem before?
