216gti cv joint
I have read lots of threads about difficulty in removing cv joints . My problem is different --its about actually identifying and obtaining parts .
Story starts with prepping car for a raceday
The nearside cv boot was split so removed driveshaft etc from car --long job took all of 15 mins because every nut and joint split easily . Prising driveshaft from intermediate bearing was the most awkward part so far.
Set driveshaft in vice to remove cv joint (I didn't want to use the stretchable boots and don't have the tools anyway ) eventually parted the cv from driveshaft --and of course the circlip broke in 2 . Made sure to fish the bits from the cv.
Went to local factors Linco because Unipart factor has closed . The boot obtained for 216 did not fit --not large enough for either cv or driveshaft --oh bother!
Remembered reading that Honda dohc 216gti initially had crx parts fitted---Linco had the crx boot on the shelf---but the kit does not include circlip .. took boot anyway and went to Rimmer bros who were extremely helpful and fetched out a selection of circlips from their store . They could not supply a circlip to fit and checked their cv boot stock ---no circlip included which could be a problem .
Trip to Honda dealer who at 16.45 just before closing sorted a crx partno --ordered it and it was there next morning ----but it still didn't fit _too thick to go into groove in driveshaft although the other dimensions were good .
Visit to ex Rover dealer (now MG and KIA) yielded some circlips from his workshop stocks foc and one of them fitted.
So does anyone know the part number or a source of the circlips to fit 1991 216gti Honda d16a9
Hope you enjoyed the story --next time will fit a stretch boot .
