Advice for cooling

Hi all, I just bought a rover 200 Vi, I'm aware the 1.8 k's have a problem with cooling/thermostat and was wondering if anyone thinks I should put the prt on it and taking out the old thermostat, and I'm assuming the previous owner was aware of the cooling problem because they've wired the fan to run constantly so I was also wondering if anyone thinks I should wire that back to normal?
